Tom McAn Scholar Athlete

 

    Kevin Gahan had a memorable career at Carpinteria High School, earning four varsity letters (two in football, one in basketball, and one in baseball), and the coveted Tom McAn Scholar Athlete award. As a junior on the varsity football team, Kevin was selected as his team's Most Valuable Defensive Player and awarded a place on the All Tri-Valley League and All CIF teams. That same year Kevin was chosen as a member of the All Tri-Valley League baseball team.

Kevin's senior year was filled with honors. In football he was the Warriors' Most Valuable Player, Most Inspirational, Outstanding Defensive Lineman, and captain of his team. He was elected to the All Tri-Valley League and All CIF teams. He was named as a Prep All American, and he played in the Shrine All-Star Game and the Santa Barbara County All-Star Game. The Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table chose Kevin as the Outstanding High School Athlete in football for the 1973-1974 school year.

After high school, Kevin played football at Cal State Northridge where he earned a varsity letter. While at SBCC in 1975, he was named Best Defensive Player of the year and earned a place as line backer on the All Western State Conference Second Team. He also was a member of the 1979 Chico State runner-up college boxing team in the Western Regionals.

Kevin was born in Lompoc, one of four children of Jean and James Gahan. His family moved to Carpinteria when he was four. Kevin and his wife Kim have two sons, Tyson and Michael. He has been active as a coach for AYSO soccer, Elks basketball, Pony baseball, and YFL in Santa Ynez. Currently Kevin is an estimator/project manager for Granite Construction.
